Diamond Don's vintage Moto Cross
in Jefferson Texas

Rain, Rain, Rain!!! We all know rain will not stop Moto Cross Races and makes it more interesting. Susie and I watched the weather and all most decided not to go, but a little rain won't hurt you. I guess cabin fever got the best of us so we went to Jefferson for the races and car show. No motorcycle on this trip. We took the truck and it rained on us all the way to Linden Texas, about 20 miles from Jefferson.

No rain in Jefferson. We went downtown and looked at the car show. In spite of the earlier rain the car show was small with about 60 to 70 beautifully restored cars on display. Jefferson is a great little town to just walk around. After a couple of hours we went to Diamond Don's Vintage MX Races around 3:30.The fee was $15.00 per person for the day. The place was packed with racers and spectators. The mud was ankle deep every where. Parking was limited and lots of vehicles were stuck in the mud. Of course the mud made the races a whole different kind of race. Speed was not a factor, what mattered most was just getting traction and not falling in the mud. It was fun to watch with both riders and bike just covered in mud, slipping and sliding.

Diamond Don's Vintage MX has gotten bigger and bigger over the years. The races are awesome to watch with big name older racers. Diamond Don is no longer racing, at 70 years old and running the races he just does not have the time. He is quite a character and he all ways remembers who I am. I highly recommend this event.

After the races we went to Big Pine Catfish Resort in Uncertain Texas for catfish. Great place with great food. We stayed at the Inn of Jefferson on highway 59 for the night so we could listen to the train and their horns all night long.

All in all we had a great time. I highly recommend Jefferson Texas for a weekend get away. Motorcycle riding is fun and very interesting in the area with lots of back roads.
